Lake Drive Books Welcomes Nonprofit Leader and Innovator Tamice Spencer-Helms
A practical and prophetic voice for our time.
One of the joys of publishing is getting to work with authors who are not only brilliant thinkers but also soulful storytellers—people who help us see more clearly, feel more deeply, and live more freely. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce that Lake Drive Books has signed a publishing agreement with Tamice Spencer-Helms for their forthcoming 2026 book tentatively titled, Resurrection Technology: A Hush Harbor Troubling of Our Origin Stories.
At Lake Drive, our mission is to empower authors who help readers better understand the past so they can move forward in a life where they can be real and feel seen. Tamice’s work could not be a more perfect fit for that vision.
Tamice is an innovative cultural thinker, a nonprofit leader, and a prophetic voice for our time. In Resurrection Technology, they will explore the hidden cost of theologies built on control, shame, and erasure—particularly how these doctrines have impacted Black communities and queer identities. Through a rich blend of memoir, cultural critique, and spiritual reflection, they call readers back to a deeper, more liberating faith.
What makes Tamice’s voice so unique—and so needed—is the way they reclaim the tradition of the “hush harbor.” Historically, hush harbors were clandestine gatherings where enslaved Africans practiced a form of spirituality that empire could not contain—spaces of resistance, authenticity, and divine intimacy. Tamice brings that same spirit into their writing. They help us see these hush harbors not only as historical realities but as blueprints for modern spiritual liberation. These are not just stories of survival; they are technologies of resurrection.
In a time when so many are deconstructing harmful beliefs but unsure what comes next, Tamice offers a grounded and powerful way forward. They don’t ask readers to abandon faith—but ask them to trouble the origin stories we’ve inherited and recover the sacred truth empire tried to erase. Tamice’s writing is deeply honest, intellectually rigorous, and beautifully poetic.
This book isn’t just for those recovering from toxic religion—it’s for anyone seeking to live with greater agency, rooted in spiritual practices that affirm the full dignity and humanity of all people.

David Morris
